Toronto Raptors center Jontay Porter has been banned for life from the NBA for gambling

The NBA has banned Toronto's Jontay Porter for life after violating the league's gambling rules.

The league said its investigation revealed that Porter disclosed confidential information to sports bettors, limited his participation in one or more games for betting purposes and placed bets on NBA games.

“The league's investigation determined that prior to the Raptors' March 20 game, Porter disclosed confidential health information to a person he knew to be an NBA player,” the league said in a statement Wednesday.

“Another person with whom Porter is connected and known to be an NBA player subsequently placed an $80,000 bet with an online sportsbook to win $1.1 million, with Porter betting on the March 20 game as the underdog.”

According to the NBA, Porter played just three minutes in the March 20 game before leaving due to illness.

Some sportsbooks said they received notices of odd bets on Porter's props.

Porter, 24, joined the Raptors on a two-way contract this season and played in 26 games with five starts. The six-foot-11 center is averaging 4.4 points, 3.2 rebounds and 2.3 assists in 13.8 minutes this season.
