The Calgary Canucks beat the Whitecourt Wolverines 5-4

The Calgary Canucks came within one win of the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) championship on Tuesday night with a 5-4 win over the Whitecourt Wolverines.

Chris Kobelka scored at 19:17 of the third period to give Calgary the win and a 4-4 tie at Max Bell Arena.

Kobelka's game-winner capped the Canucks' three-goal third-period surge to overcome a two-goal deficit.

Calgary got goals from Ty Hipkin and Easton Hewson in the second period, but surrendered three to Whitecourt, who jumped out to a 4-2 lead early in the third period.

However, Julien Gervais cut it to 4-3, then Gavin Schmidt tied it before Kobelka fired home the eventual game-winner in the final minute of regulation time.

The win gave the Canucks a 3-0 lead in the best-of-seven AJHL final against Whitecourt. One more win and the Canucks are AJHL champions.

Game 4 is Wednesday night at Ken Bracco Arena, Max Bell.

Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m
