Montreal's Royalmount is opening soon — this is how you can enter the mega-mall.

Royalmount – Montreal's newest luxury shopping center – will officially open its doors this August, bringing a host of high-end shops, restaurants, green spaces and residential areas to the city.

Led by Carbonleo real estate development and management company, the Royalmount mega-mall has a total of 170+ stores (50% of which are new or never-before-seen-in-Quebec concepts), 60+ cafes and restaurants, a VIP movie house, a REC room, art and entertainment activities, etc.

If you're wondering what stores will be available at the new Royalmount Mall, you can read all about it here.

Royalmount Mall has a total budget of $7 billion, making it clear that the new luxury mall will be home to the best brands, experiences and offerings in the Quebec market.

The first phase consists of an 824,000-square-foot, two-level retail and lifestyle complex, as well as a three-kilometer linear park called Le Champ Libre surrounded by an outdoor public piazza.

Carbonleo promises that the site is 100% walkable, making it easy for shoppers and visitors to get there. Not to mention that all services are available within a “maximum 15 minute walk”.

At the time of opening, many people may not know how to enter the new mall. You can access Royalmount in several ways.

By metro

For those looking for an easy and eco-friendly way to the Royalmount mega-mall, you can opt to take the metro. The sky bridge connecting the De La Savane metro station with the Royalmount shopping center is officially completed.

The covered sky bridge passes directly over the Decari Expressway and is equipped with stairs and escalators, making it an easy journey for travelers with baby carriages or bicycles.

“This significant expansion of Montreal's infrastructure will help facilitate travel to Royalmount and between boroughs, while promoting sustainable and active mobility in our amazing city,” Carbonleau said.

Although this makes daily journeys easier, De La Savane station is not equipped with an elevator and is not on the list of metro stations under construction to integrate elevators. Therefore, the metro-sky bridge connection is not 100% wheelchair accessible.

The MTL blog contacted both the Society of Montreal (STM) and Carbonleo to see if an elevator could be built that would allow wheelchair users to directly access the sky bridge from De La Savane station. We will update the article when we receive a response.

By bicycle

Royamount Mega Mall is also accessible by bike. Whether you live in the area or ride your bike through the subway, the sky bridge makes it easy for bike users to navigate. Once at Royalmount, cyclists can park their bikes in one of over 500 bike racks.

In addition, Carbonleo confirmed that the mall will connect to the city's bike path network, easily connecting Montrealers to the new luxury mall.

By car

Royalmount is expected to have a total of 7,000 parking spaces, providing seamless access to the mall for those who live further afield or cannot reach the mall via the metro or Montreal's bike network.

Although designated parking locations have not yet been announced, shoppers can access the mall via Royalmount Alley, Ferrier Street, Pare Street and Devonshire Street.

Despite the parking spaces, many are concerned that the Royalmount shopping center could lead to more congestion around the Decari intersection. A Reddit thread found on the r/montreal forum addresses several of these concerns, with users pointing out that the area is already a traffic hotspot.

Nevertheless, Carbonleo is moving forward with additional “road improvements” to promote “active mobility” and improve traffic flow.

On foot

Royalmount also houses residential areas and a hotel, meaning the mega-mall is within walking distance.

According to Royalmount's website, the hotel offers its guests and visitors a hospitality center centrally located between Montreal's airport and the bustling streets of downtown. All within a 15-minute walking radius, it's safe to say that Royalmount residents and visitors walk quite a bit.

The first phase of Royalmount Mall is expected to open on August 15, 2024.
