CFL Montreal Alouettes celebrate 50th anniversary of 1974 Gray Cup win – SportsLogos.Net News

The Canadian Football League's Montreal Alouettes are planning to celebrate the 50th anniversary of their first Gray Cup victory with a special one-off uniform for this August game.

The 2023 Gray Cup champions announced their home game titles for the upcoming 2024 CFL season on Wednesday, April 17, and among them was an Aug. 25 tribute to the 1974 championship team. Fittingly, their opponents for the day will be the Edmonton Elks. the same franchise they beat in the 1974 title game.

Along with the graduation at home, the Alouettes said in Wednesday's announcement that “our players will wear unique uniforms for the occasion.”

The graphic accompanying the announcement includes the team's primary logo from that era.

This logo appeared on the front of the Alouettes' blue helmets during the 1974 season, with player numbers in white on the sides.

The Alouettes wore blue jerseys with red jerseys and white stripes on each shoulder in the 1974 Gray Cup game. Appropriate CFL unified databasethey had a white version that retained the red sleeves but had blue shoulder stripes.

The Alouettes beat Edmonton 20-7 in the 1974 Gray Cup on a wet field at Empire Stadium in Vancouver. Larry Scherrer scored Montreal's only touchdown in the second quarter on a five-yard run.

The Alouettes open their 2024 CFL regular season on Thursday, June 6, when they travel to Princess Auto Stadium in Winnipeg for a rematch of the 2023 Gray Cup game. Their home opener comes just two weeks later when they host the Ottawa REDBLACKS at Percival Molson Memorial Stadium.
