Calgary doctor charged with $2.2 million in fraud

A Calgary doctor has been accused of paying taxpayers $2.2 million for work he never performed.

City police said the Alberta Health Services Investigations Unit contacted SF-based family physician Dr. Shabina Fajullah after investigating her billing practices. Medical Clinic at 1106 Edmonton Trail NE

That investigation covered his accounts from March 2020 to June 2022, police said.

“The doctor is alleged to have paid overtime to the Alberta Health Insurance Plan beyond the hours actually worked,” Calgary police said in a news release Wednesday.

The doctor is registered as a clinical lecturer at the Cumming School of Medicine, University of Calgary.

Fajullah, 49, is charged with fraud over $5,000 and is scheduled to appear in court on May 16.
