Violent stabbing of Winnipeg Smitty's caught on video

The violent stabbing at Smitty's was caught on video and is the fourth attack on the Winnipeg eatery in less than a year, and some industry members say more time and effort is being spent on safety and security than ever before.

The incident on April 14 happened outside a St James Street eatery and a 31-year-old man has been charged with aggravated assault and possession of a weapon, according to a police spokesman. alcohol and bad decisions.

The Smitty's stabbing is just one of four violent incidents at the diner in the past year and the second this month. On April 2, police tape sealed off this Osborne Street Burger King following another violent attack.

Mona Nagibzadeh is the owner of Next Stop Cafe. He is at his restaurant every weekend to ensure the safety of staff during busy service hours and has seen racial slurs and drug use, lunch and dashes and vandalism.

“It's not something you see every two months, we see it every week,” Nagibzadeh said. “You never know what's going to happen!”

Nagibzadeh says he installed new cameras at the restaurant because of what happened at a nearby Burger King.

“I just want to create a space where customers are happy and feel at home.”

The Manitoba Restaurant and Food Service Association, which represents hundreds of restaurants across the province, is set to meet with Winnipeg Mayor Scott Gillingham on Friday.

Police advise the public to always be aware of their surroundings, and if they witness a volatile situation, stay away, stay as far away as possible and call the police immediately.
