Toronto rail protest: At least 5 arrested

Several people were arrested at a pro-Palestinian rally that blocked rail lines in the city's west side for several hours.

Protesters said they planned to stand on the railroad tracks at Osler Street and Pelham Avenue, near Tork, for several hours.

Toronto police estimated there were 100 to 120 demonstrators at the scene. Just before 7:30 p.m., officers began arresting demonstrators as they tried to clear the railroad tracks.

At least five people have been arrested, police said.

In a brief statement, a CP Rail spokesman said: “We are aware of the protest and are in contact with local authorities.”

Metrolinx said the demonstration did not disrupt GO train and UP Express service.

Police say roads are closed due to the protest. Osler Street is closed from Caribou Avenue to Linder Street, and Pelham Avenue is closed at Uxbridge.
