Toronto Airport Gold Heist: Police Announce Arrests

More arrests are expected this morning in connection with the gold heist at Toronto Pearson International Airport a year ago, Peel Regional Police said.

In a news release issued Tuesday, Peel police confirmed that investigators will speak with officials from the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms at 9 a.m. to provide an update on the case, known as Project 24K.

The update comes on the one year anniversary of the robbery.

In a lawsuit filed last fall in the Federal Court of Canada, Brink's alleged Air Canada security company allowed an unidentified man to walk away with $20 million in gold and millions in cash after providing employees with false travel documents.

In his complaint, Brink alleged that an unknown person gained access to the airline's cargo hold shortly after the valuables landed and unloaded at Pearson.

According to the charges, a false travel document was obtained that allowed the suspect to leave the warehouse with approximately $2 million in cash and gold bars weighing just over 400 kilograms.

In a statement of defence, Air Canada denied all allegations in Brink's lawsuit and denied any wrongdoing.

Today's press conference will be broadcast live on CP24.com.
