The soup was taken to the Ontario legislature: the police

A suspicious package delivered to Queen's Park was determined to be powdered soup after a Toronto police investigation on Tuesday.

The Toronto Police Service (TPS) said officers were called to the Ontario Legislature at 11:30 a.m. to report a suspicious package. According to the police, employees were evacuated from a small area of the building.

Later, an explosives unit officer found that the package contained powder sauce. Police believe the item was made as a prank, they said.

The Prime Minister said on Tuesday that he had no information on the matter.

It's the second time in a week that the gravy delivered to Queen's Park has hit the headlines. Liberal Parliamentary Leader John Fraser presented Premier Ford with a jar of the sauce after it was revealed last week that 48 Ford employees had made it onto this year's sunshine list.

The gesture was meant to remind the Fords of their family motto: “Stop the lawsuit train,” Frazier said. The prime minister's late brother, Rob Ford, used the slogan extensively during his mayoral campaign to highlight how he would cut red tape and save taxpayers money. The phrase was brought back to the legislature by the Ontario Liberals, who believe the Ford government did the exact opposite.

“I did this to remind you that he has more than doubled the staff in his office, all of whom are on the sunshine list (and) to 48 people who all earn more than the median family income in Ontario,” Fraser said. “I don't think it's just wrong, I think it's shameful.”

Reached for comment Tuesday, Frazier said he was not responsible for the second prize draw, but heard that his actions prompted some citizens to do so.

The Liberal leader expressed sympathy for legislative staffers who were dismayed by Tuesday's incident. While he said it was clear some people were “displeased” with the prime minister, he said sending a picture of the sauce would have been enough.
