The CF Montréal Reserve Team begins its third season in Ligue1 Quebec

MONTREAL – CF Montréal's reserve team will play its third season in 2024 in the Quebec 1 League. The regular season runs from April 20 to September 7.

Nine home games are free at Center Nutrilight. After the opening match at Mount Royal Town on Sunday, April 21, the team will play their first home game on Saturday, April 27 against Celtics du Haut-Richelieu.

With a squad of 22 players between the ages of 17 and 20, head coach Patrick Viollat ​​and assistant Sylvain Haskoet can count on key players such as goalkeeper Judevellin Michel and the U17 Canadian international for this winter's first team training camp. Etienne Godin, Gael De Montigny and Antoine N'Diaye of international rank.

Three new players have been added to the roster: goalkeeper Alessandro Ouzounis, defender Nicolas Pietrantonio and forward Nael Kane. Seven players are playing their third season in the Quebec league. Of the group of nine different nationalities, eighteen are from Quebec and six are from Montreal.

“The main goal of the academy is to promote its players to the first team,” said head coach Patrick Viollat. “The goal is to show our players to be regularly called up for training with the first team this season. As in the winter of 2023, the group met very good teams this past winter season and is mastering them. The style of play of the academy matches that of the first team. We are better collectively and individually. organized, so it will be interesting to evaluate our progress in the new season in Quebec, where we want to perform well compared to last year.”

Preparations for the reserve team began in January at the Complex sportif Mare-Victorin, and they will face Quebec and American university teams, as well as MLS NEXT PRO teams (New England Revolution II, New York Red Bulls II, New York City FC II and Toronto FC II). matches entered. ).

“We are very excited to begin this third season among the elite of Quebec soccer,” said academy director Marinos Papagergopoulos. “We have a group of young players with great potential and we want to see them continue to develop during the best competition in the province. Ligue1 Quebec is the province's semi-professional league, equivalent to the third division at the national level. In 2023, CF Montréal finished fifth in the standings with a record of 12-6-4, just shy of a playoff spot.
