Several sushi products sold in Montreal have been recalled

The Ministry of Agriculture, des Pêcheries et de l'Alimentation (MAPAQ) has issued a recall notice for several sushi products sold at various grocery stores in Montreal.

According to the provincial health agency, the affected products contain or may contain allergenic substances that are not properly labeled on the packaging.

What you need to know

MAPAQ, in collaboration with Montreal and Zoto Sushi's Food Inspection Unit, which operates various metro Montreal grocery stores, recalled various sushi rolls and pre-made items because the packaging did not list all the ingredients used in the food.

The ministry advises people with allergies to soy, wheat, fish, sulfites or eggs, or people with celiac disease or other conditions caused by gluten intake, not to consume the following products:

  • Zoto Sushi gyoza | Eggs, fish, wheat, soy, and sulfites are all items not listed on the label
  • Zoto Sushi Avocado and Imitation Crab | Eggs, fish, wheat, soy, and sulfites are all items not listed on the label
  • Zoto Sushi Shrimp Tempura Roll | Eggs, fish, wheat, soy, and sulfites are all items not listed on the label

What is being done

MAPAQ is currently recalling the named products and is verifying that the recalled sushi rolls and gyoza were properly removed from the following Quebec grocery stores:

  • 3000, that's it. De La Rousselliere (Montreal)
  • 450, enough. Don Quixote (l'Île-Perrot)
  • 6333 Beaubien Street (Montreal)
  • 107, blvd. Cardinal-Léger (Pincourt)
  • 305, be. iberville (regret)

This warning only applies to people who are allergic to soy, wheat, fish, sulfites, or eggs, or who have celiac disease or other conditions caused by gluten intake.

What you need to do

Affected individuals who have had one of these products are advised not to consume it. According to Quebec's recall notice page, it's best to return it to the place of purchase or throw it away immediately.

The CFIA has also recalled more than a dozen food products sold in Canada, including salad kits, some salsas, some egg and dairy products, frozen pizzas, frozen hamburgers and even meat products for reasons including salmonella contamination, listeria outbreaks and the presence of metal parts.

Health Canada has also announced a series of consumer product recalls affecting items sold in the country, including vacuum cleaners, USB adapters, iPhone chargers, several medications, baby products and handheld steamers.
