Content of the article

Quebec Unionist and Parti Quebecois Coalition Avenir on Wednesday expressed concern over Quebec MNA Eric Lefebvre's decision to continue in his riding after he announced his intention to run as a Conservative candidate in the next federal election.

QS MNA Vincent Marissal called on Lefebvre, who is the party whip, to think about his actions and make a decision in the best interest of the voters. Meanwhile, PQ MNA Pascal Bérubé Lefebvre said he should explain his departure soon after the general election in October 2022, an explanation that is even more necessary because as whip he is a member of the provincial cabinet.

Quebec Liberal interim leader Marc Tanguay was reserved in his assessment of Lefebvre's statement, saying he would take it for granted and continue in his role as an MNA. However, he said he did not feel good that Francois Legault Lefebvre thinks federal conservative leader Pierre Poilevremen has a good future.

Eric Lefebvre is the second CAQ MNA to leave the chamber after the 2022 election. Joel Boutin, representing Jean-Talon's Quebec City, resigned last July for family reasons.

Boutin's departure triggered a by-election in which the riding went to the PQ, in what many observers saw as a humiliating defeat for Legault and the CAQ.

Lefebvre's decision to offer him a ride Like Arthabasca independent election means no re-election.

Although the CAQ has been falling sharply in the polls since Jean-Talon's re-election last October, Poillevre's conservatives are leading in voter intent. The only area where they are weak is Quebec, where according to the 338 Canadian poll aggregator, they are in third place behind the Bloc Quebecois and Justin Trudeau's Liberals.
