Montreal Canadiens defenseman Logan Mylus to make his NHL debut against the Red Wings

The National Hockey League cleared rookie Logan Mylus to make his NHL debut tonight against the Detroit Red Wings, the National Hockey League announced Tuesday morning ahead of the Montreal Canadiens' final game of the 2023-24 regular season.

The Canadiens drafted Mailloux in 2021 under controversial circumstances. Before being drafted that year, Daily Faceoff In November 2020, Mailu was placed on the “non-draft” list by several teams after he was accused of filming and distributing explicit photos of non-consensual sex while playing with Swedish club SK Lejon.

Mailloux said before the 2021 NHL draft that he didn't want to be drafted, but the Canadiens selected him 31st overall.

Mailloux spent the 2023–24 regular season with the Canadians' American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Laval Rocket, where he had 14 goals and 33 assists for 47 points in 70 games; Mailloux was subsequently invited to the AHL All-Star Game, where he represented the North Division. Mailloux leads all Laval defensemen in scoring and is third among Rockets in scoring behind Brandon Gignac and Phil Maillet.

The 21-year-old spent three seasons with the London Knights of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) and led the OHL in scoring by a defenseman with 25 goals in 2022-23; he scored 53 points in 59 games. In 75 career games with London, Mailu has 28 goals and 34 assists for 62 points, 24 points in 21 OHL playoff contests.

The Belle River, Ontario product signed a three-year entry-level contract with the Canadiens through the 2022-23 regular season, when NHL commissioner Gary Bettman declared Mailloux eligible to play.
