Gimli RCMP investigate firearm found during beach cleanup

On April 13, 2024, a family's beach cleanup took an unexpected turn when a 12-year-old girl found a sawed-off shotgun on the shores of Lake Winnipeg near North Lake Street and Vaughan Avenue in Gimli.

Gimli's Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) received the report at approximately 12:35 p.m. The family, who was cleaning garbage on the beach near the holiday home, immediately called the police after hearing the shocking incident.

Law enforcement officers immediately arrived at the scene and confiscated firearms. According to standard procedure, all recovered firearms are treated as loaded to ensure maximum safety. Rusty firearms were carefully dismantled in the detachment. Officers were able to confirm it was not loaded.

The origin of the weapon and its possible connection to any criminal activity remain unknown. Gimli RCMP continue to investigate this matter thoroughly.
