Car theft in Toronto: 3 people face 54 charges in latest car theft

Three men face a total of 54 charges in connection with a car theft investigation that saw police officers injured during an arrest.

Police revealed the details at a news conference Tuesday where three people, including a juvenile, were arrested and charged in connection with a suspected carjacking in the city.

The first happened near Ellesmere and Kennedy Roads in Scarborough at around 2pm on April 6: three men approached a man getting out of a blue BMW X5 and demanded his car keys; One of the suspects pointed a gun at the man, and the suspects drove away, police said.

On April 11 around 8 p.m., police said officers were called to a gas station at Yonge Street and Sheppard Avenue in North York for a report of four men attempting to steal a 2021 white Lamborghini Urus.

Police said the owner of the vehicle was assaulted multiple times and taken to the hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

Finally, on April 12 at approximately 10:27 p.m., officers said they found the two vehicles in a parking lot near Barmac Drive at Islington and Steeles avenues in North York.

As the blue BMW X5 attempted to leave the area, police officers entered; As the driver tried to evade arrest, he went up a hill, hit several police cars and narrowly missed officers, police said.

“Even when the police cars were boxed in, the driver refused to comply with the officers' demands and attempted to flee again,” the police report said.

“Police officers arrested all three people who were in the car.”

The suspects face a total of 54 charges, including possession of a restricted or prohibited firearm without a license or registration certificate and possession of a motor vehicle with a firearm.
