Calgary police say the driver of a BMW has been issued a summons to appear in court after being caught speeding at twice the speed limit.

A motorist was stopped at 12:30 a.m. Friday on NW 112th Ave.

Police say he was doing 170 km/h in a 60 km/h zone.

The driver could lose his license for 90 days and pay a fine of $2,200.

“One in four drivers involved in fatal collisions were driving at an unsafe speed,” police said on Twitter on Tuesday.

“Always maintain the speed limit to ensure the safety of all road users.”
