Calgary doctor handed over $2.2 million in bogus billing: police

A Calgary doctor is facing charges following an investigation into allegations of fraudulent billing, police say.

Calgary police say they were alerted by the Alberta Health Research Unit after an investigation into a doctor who submitted nearly $2.2 million in false payment claims to the Alberta Health Insurance Plan over two years.

From March 2020 to June 2022, the Health Inspection Unit investigated the billing history of a physician who worked at an SF medical clinic located at 1106 Edmonton Trail NE and reported the findings to police.

Investigators say the doctor was billed for more hours than they actually worked.

Shabina Fajullah was charged with fraud over $5,000 related to false billing.

The 49-year-old man will appear in court on May 16.
