Arrested in gold heist at Toronto Pearson Airport

An arrest was made in connection with a gold heist at Pearson International Airport a year ago, police said.

The heist took place on April 17, 2023, and involved the theft of a “high-value container” from the hold after it was disembarked from an Air Canada flight.

Police have released little other information about the circumstances surrounding the theft.

But Brink's lawsuit against Air Canada sheds some light on the speculation.

In a statement, Brink said an unknown person gained access to Air Canada's cargo hold after presenting false documents about 40 minutes after the cargo plane first landed.

The lawsuit, filed on October 6, 2023, alleges that employees handed over $2 million and 400 kilograms of gold bars (currently worth about $21.1 million) to the suspected thief.
