Manitoba RCMP are investigating after an old sawed-off shotgun was recently found on the shores of Lake Winnipeg.

Police were called on the afternoon of April 13 after a 12-year-old girl and her family found a handgun while cleaning the beach near the cottage. The discovery was made near North Lake Street and Vaughan Avenue around 12:35 p.m

Gimli RCMP officers attended the scene and seized the rusted firearm. The Mounties took the precaution of not knowing it was loaded, but later dismantled it in a detachment, where it was discovered that it was not loaded.

RCMP are investigating where the gun came from and whether it was related to any criminal activity.
