Wet April Midweek Colorado Forecast Continues Low News

It's been a wet April so far, with places like Toronto and Barrie getting above average rainfall for the month, but we're almost halfway there – and another major system due to hit southern Ontario midweek.

“A Colorado low will move down over the prairies and the entire province will see precipitation Wednesday afternoon into Thursday,” Environment Canada meteorologist Trudy Kidd said in an interview Monday.

Pearson Airport received 93.9 mm of rain in April, exceeding the monthly average of 78 mm (based on data from 1991 to 2020).

“And for Barry, it's a staggering number. Barry has recorded 126.9mm (of rain) so far (in April) and normally it's 62.2mm,” he said.

However, Hamilton has yet to reach his April average.

“Hamilton has received 60.7 mm (of rain) so far, compared to a typical April of 79.1 mm,” he said, with Hamilton and Barry figures based on data from 1981 to 2010.

It remains to be seen how much precipitation will fall in Colorado by midweek, he said.

“As usual, it's not reliable to narrow it down to how much (total rainfall),” he said, adding that most models were predicting in the 25 to 30mm range, although one model had a modest 15mm. in general, and in the other up to 40 mm.

“So 40mm is the worst case scenario right now.”

He said the forecast at this time calls for snow across most of the province, except for northwestern Ontario.

“So it's starting Wednesday (afternoon) and then it starts going down on Thursday, so I'd say like a 36-hour amount,” he said.

It's been a sunny start to the work week, with highs today at Pearson Airport in Mississauga expected to reach the teens this afternoon — the same forecast for Tuesday.

Temperatures are only forecast to reach 8 degrees on Wednesday, as lows in Colorado are seen at 13 degrees on Thursday and 15 degrees on Friday.

A low storm system in Colorado will leave slightly cooler temperatures in the double digits for the weekend.
