'There's a roller coaster': Colorado Lowe arrives in Manitoba this week

It was a beautiful weekend with temperatures close to 20 degrees in parts of Manitoba. However, the weather will change dramatically as the Colorado Low hits the province this week.

“It's a roller coaster,” said Environment Canada meteorologist Jason Knight. “It's going to be fine today and tomorrow, but it's going to get worse on Tuesday night.”

Knight said we'll see rain pick up late Tuesday as the Colorado moves into lower Manitoba.

“We're looking at about 20mm or thereabouts for Tuesday and Wednesday,” Knight said. “Unfortunately, temperatures will cool, which will turn into snow Thursday and early Friday.”

In southern Manitoba, including Winnipeg, we could see a few centimeters of snow and highs near plus 1.

“Some of it might stick, but hopefully it will melt,” Knight said. “It's not time to take off the winter tires yet.”

Meanwhile, a special weather advisory has been issued north of Thompson.

“We could be looking at about 30 centimeters of snow and near-zero temperatures,” Knight explained. “Towards the northern group, Linn Lake, Thompson, that area, they're looking at winter coming back.”

By Friday Jason says the system will kick in and we should be back to double digits and sunshine.
