A treasure trove of historic Winnipeg postcards is now available to the public.

A collection of Martin Berman postcards donated to the city by the Berman family has been added to PastForward, a digital cache of City of Winnipeg public history.

Berman was a collector of more than 5,000 historic Winnipeg postcards. The public library is in the process of scanning them all and adding them to the PastForward website, where the collection can be browsed.

The material collection was sent to the city archive and document control department for storage.

Rob McInnes, owner of the McInnes Postcard Collection at PastForward, will hold an official launch of the collection with a discussion about the historical significance of the postcards and the stories they tell, until 11 a.m. today at the Millennium Library in Carol Shields Auditorium. Color.

Collections at PastForward include city directories from 1880 to 1965 and more than 1,500 images of Winnipeg. You can browse history, search for familiar places or people, and add your own comments to enrich the site. All content on PastForward is in the public domain and can be downloaded, printed and shared, the city said.
