Montreal is opening seven new eco-centers to dispose of old mattresses, refrigerators and other items

If you're looking for a place to dump your old fridge, outdated sound system or mattress, seven new eco-centres opened on the island of Montreal on Monday.

Everything that goes into the Ecocenters is recycled, including Styrofoam, construction waste and even branches that can be turned into wood chips for energy production. Metal springs from old mattresses can be melted down and recycled.

Tires and hazardous household items are also accepted.

The city recommends that residents visit montreal.ca to find the nearest eco-centre and what items are accepted. Proof of identity and proof of address are required to visit.

The centers are open daily from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and are free to all residents of the Island of Montreal.
