Manitoba received heavy rain

Spring has sprung in Manitoba, which means the return of April showers.

A number of communities across the province received heavy rainfall on Monday, including 13.4 millimeters (mm) at Forks in Winnipeg and 12.8 mm at the airport.

According to Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC), Stonewall also received 12.8 mm, St. Adolph 12.5 mm and Ely 12.2 mm. Portage la Prairie also had rainy weather with 10.9 mm of rain, while Brandon received 6.4 mm.

Rainfall is expected to continue in southwestern Manitoba until noon Tuesday, with another 10 mm of rain expected.

The news comes as the ECCC issued a special weather advisory for parts of northern Manitoba, including Flin Flon, The Pas and Thompson.

A large low-pressure system will begin to affect northern Manitoba on Tuesday, with precipitation starting as rain and changing to snow Wednesday and Thursday, the weather agency said.

According to the ECCC, rainfall amounts between 20 and 40 mm are likely.

According to the weather agency, it is not yet known exactly when the rain will give way to snow accumulation. He said current indications are that communities to the north could see mostly snow Tuesday and Wednesday night, while the weather event will change to rain and snow in communities to the south.
