Fire damages Hudson's 182-year-old church

A fire at St. James Anglican Church in Hudson caused extensive damage to the building, which has been part of the community since 1842.

A fire broke out at a church in a municipality west of Montreal around 8 a.m. Sunday, with flames spreading through most of the building, destroying the roof and interior.

No one was injured in the fire. The Hudson Fire Department and eight to nine other fire departments from other communities assisted in extinguishing the fire.

The exact cause of the fire is still unknown, but the church leader says he wants to restore the church, a sentiment echoed by other locals who gathered at the scene on Monday morning.

Hudson Mayor Chole Hutchison expressed his thoughts on the church fire on Facebook, noting that the city has been in contact with Reverend Sophie Rolland and intends to restore what was destroyed.

The church was built in 1842 and has since served the predominantly Anglophone Anglican community.
