Cherry blossoms will be in full bloom in Toronto next week

Torontonians can see cherry blossoms in High Park next week!

According to local cherry blossom enthusiast Stephen Joniak, also known as Sakura Steve, the first open blossoms have been spotted, meaning it's only a week away from full bloom.

In the last episode of Steve's Sakura Hour, he said that the buds are actually in the fourth stage because “all the flower clusters are coming out pink” and that means the flowers are getting ready to open.

However, the rate at which these cherry blossoms open depends on the temperature over the coming week. According to Steve, warm, sunny days encourage flowers to open more quickly, but rain or snow can slow progress.

“The warm weather over the past week has helped to speed up the development of these trees significantly. We just need some nice sunny days and then we should see full bloom next weekend,” Steve said in his video.

Steve predicts that Torontonians will be in about 75 percent full bloom starting April 18th and the weekend leading up to the 24th.

At the end of the day, he says the weather will decide when the cherry blossoms bloom, and warns visitors not to touch the blossoms once they are ready.
