Apartment fire in downtown Toronto

Crews are responding to a two-alarm fire at a downtown apartment building.

Toronto police said the fire broke out on the balcony of a residence near York Street and Bremner Boulevard around 12:23 p.m.

Police said the fire spread to the second balcony, shattering glass and falling to the ground below.

Heavy smoke could be seen from the affected units on Monday afternoon.

Police could not say if anyone was injured in the fire. Many roads were closed, police said.
