A worker was seriously injured in a fall at the Olympic Stadium in Montreal

A worker is in critical condition after falling 10 meters down a ventilation shaft at Montreal's Olympic Stadium on Monday.

The Montreal Fire Department was called around 12:20 a.m. after a 911 call.

Firefighters specializing in confined space rescues were able to reach him quickly before handing him over to emergency services.

When paramedics arrived, the 30-year-old worker was conscious and said he was “injured”.

However, the circumstances of the incident are still unknown.

Quebec's workplace safety board, the Commission des Normes, de l'équité, de la santé et de la sécurité du travail (CNESST), has launched an investigation into the incident.

The fire at the Olympic Stadium at the end of March caused extensive water and smoke damage. It is being investigated by the Montreal Police Fire Squad. Workers began to clean the affected areas.
