A man has died in a hit-and-run at Yonge and College

A 40-year-old man has died after being hit by a hit-and-run driver at a downtown intersection Monday morning.

The incident happened at the corner of Yonge and College streets around 4:30 a.m. Toronto police say a pedestrian was hit by a car traveling southbound on Yonge Street.

Toronto Paramedic Services said they transported a 40-year-old man to a trauma center with serious injuries. He died soon after, police said.

“There was a collision at the intersection where a man was seriously injured,” said Insp. Laurie Kranenburg told CP24 at the scene. “He was taken to hospital but has since succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.”

The driver of the car fled the scene,” Kranenburg said.

“The driver did not stay at the scene and police are asking if there are any witnesses or anyone with dashcam (video) and they're asking you to contact Traffic,” Kranenburg said.

Yonge Street was closed in the area as police investigated the fatal incident.
