A man attacked a victim in a xenophobic incident at a Toronto store, police said

A Toronto man has been charged with assaulting a victim with xenophobic slurs at a North York convenience store earlier this week.

According to a news release from the Toronto Police Service (TPS), the incident happened on April 11 in the area of ​​Winford Drive and Winford Heights Crescent, east of Don Valley Park.

Investigators said the suspect entered the store and made xenophobic remarks to the victim, who was of South Asian ethnicity and wearing a turban during the interaction. “After that, the suspect threw something at the victim and fled the scene,” the report said.

On Saturday, officers arrested Nicoline Cristofori, 54, of Toronto, and charged her with one count of assault with a weapon.

Cristofori is scheduled to appear in court on May 24, 2024 at 2:00 p.m.
