The University of York collective bargaining agreement with academic staff: union

A tentative agreement was reached between the University of York and around 3,000 academic staff who were made redundant at the end of February.

In a statement, the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), which represents striking employees, confirmed a tentative agreement was reached with the employer Sunday night, Local 3903.

“For the first time in seven weeks, there is a possible deal for workers on pickets at York University,” it said.

Starting February 26, the university's contract faculty, teaching and graduate students, research staff and part-time librarians went on strike, leading to the suspension of courses for thousands of students.

Details of the preliminary agreement have not been released as the union is awaiting ratification of the agreement. The union said the workers were seeking a contract over issues of “access, job security and equality in the workplace.”
