The Pistons will help the Predators solidify a top pick in the 2nd round

Detroit did it.

Sunday's loss to the Detroit Pistons allowed the Toronto Raptors to win the No. 31 pick in this summer's NBA draft. Detroit finished the season with the worst record in the NBA and will now trade the first pick in the second round to Toronto this summer.

The Raptors acquired a pick from New York as part of the OG Anunoby trade, which included Immanuel Quickley and RJ Barrett in exchange for Anunoby, Precious Achiuwa and Malachi Flynn.

Toronto will now open the second day of the NBA draft on Friday, June 28. The league opted to expand the draft to a two-day format earlier this year, with the first night scheduled for Thursday, June 27.

The Raptors will also have a first-round pick from Indiana, between picks No. 16 and No. 19, depending on how the Western Conference playoff picture pans out. Indiana's win on Sunday allowed the Pacers to avoid the Eastern Conference playoffs.

As for their own first-round pick, Toronto finished the year sixth-worst in the league and has a 45.8% chance of keeping their pick. Toronto has a 37.2% chance of finishing in the top 4, and an 8.6% chance of finishing in 6th place.

Toronto is obligated to trade its top-six first-round pick to the San Antonio Spurs as compensation for last year's trade deal for Jacob Poeltl.

The NBA Draft lottery is scheduled for May 12, 2024.
