The Calgary turkey was presumed dead

The urban turkey that roams Ramsay and other parts of town appears to be dead.

Avery Maxwell is a Turkish Facebook page moderator Loyal followers of Ramsay Turkey He has more than 6,000 followers — and on Friday morning in Bridgeland, Turk appears to have been overwhelmed overnight.

“Needless to say, this is devastating news for all of us. I am personally heartbroken,” he wrote on Facebook.

Maxwell said that the Turk “has been fortunate enough to prosper beyond his original destiny, and has had many interesting experiences, and has had many admirers.”

He told CBC News that feathers covered in blood have been found in recent days near Columbus Manor, where the bird is frequented, and he believes they are the missing turkeys.

“We think it may have been in the area in the early hours of the morning and there are sheep in the area and they took a chance…. We hope it got away quickly,” he said.

The turkey has been a regular on social media in Calgary since it was first spotted more than a year ago.

He was a unique sight around town and was often seen roaming around the Southeast neighborhood before heading off to places far and wide, including walking the Beltline.

It even happened was captured by the police surveillance camera.

Maxwell said there are still turkey shirts for sale, with all proceeds going to Alberta Children's Hospital or the Calgary Food Bank, and the group is also discussing making a commemorative shirt.
