Spring snow possible on Calgary road

The sun gave Calgarians a taste of spring this weekend, but forecasters are calling for snow Monday and Tuesday.

Calgarians saw temperatures in the teens over the weekend, with a high of 17 C on Saturday and a high of 19 C on Sunday.

Some Residents told CityNews about it on Friday they planned to enjoy the outdoors and the mountains, many patios open, grab a drink and chat with friends.

Some have even said they plan to start gardening, but there's a reason they don't start planting that garden until May weekend.

Environment Canada and Climate Change (ECCC) says there is a 60 percent chance of high tides Monday through Tuesday.

Daytime highs will be above 0C on both days, and even overnight lows won't look like minuscules, but it could cause some problems for drivers.

ECCC's Justin Shelley tells CityNews anything can happen this time of year.

“We can have four seasons at once,” he said.

“Sometimes we have some of these dynamic systems moving across the fields, rain on the warm side of the system, sometimes thunderstorms associated with it, and then it's still fairly cold on the back side of the system. air coming in from the north allows these big snow events to happen.”

He said the cooler temperatures could last through the end of the week, but most of the snow is not expected to last.

Even so, Shelley says motorists still need to be prepared for changing conditions.
