Man stabbed after fight outside St. James restaurant – Winnipeg Free Press

A man was seriously injured after he was stabbed when an altercation escalated outside a Winnipeg restaurant early Sunday morning.

City police responded to Smitty's on St. James Street shortly after midnight after receiving reports of a fight.

Officers found a man with “lower body injuries,” the Winnipeg Police Service said in a news release Sunday. The man was treated with a tourniquet and then taken to hospital in critical condition. He has been in stable condition since then, police said.

“At this stage of the investigation, it was found that a group of people got into a fight and a sharp weapon was produced,” the police report said.

According to the police, the second man was also slightly injured.

The Winnipeg Police Major Crimes Unit has taken over the investigation, and officers are currently conducting interviews, police said.
