TORONTO – Here are five things to watch out for next week in Canada's business world:

Gildan update

Gildan Activewear Inc. CEO Vince Tyra will provide an investor update on Monday, marking his first 90 days on the job. The presentation comes as activist investor Browning West seeks to replace most of the directors on the company's board to bring founder Glenn Chamandi back as chief executive of the apparel company.

Inflation

Statistics Canada will release its latest inflation reading on Tuesday morning. The consumer price index rose 2.8 percent year-on-year in February, compared with a 2.9 percent increase in January.

Housing begins

Canada Mortgage and Housing Corp. will report its preliminary numbers for housing starts in March on Tuesday. The seasonally adjusted annual rate of housing starts rose 14 percent to 253,468 in February as apartment townhome starts rose 20 percent.

Federal budget

Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland will present the federal budget on Tuesday. The official unveiling of the spending plan comes after Ottawa has made several budget announcements in recent days aimed at helping address the country's housing crisis.

Annual meetings of the bank

A pair of Canada's biggest banks will hold their annual meetings this week and answer questions from shareholders. Bank of Montreal will hold its meeting on Tuesday morning, while TD Bank Group will hold its meeting on Thursday morning.
