Canada's Gushue and Switzerland's Tirinzoni challenge for titles at Players Championship – Winnipeg Free Press

TORONTO – Canada's Brad Gushue defeated Italy's Joel Retornaz 7-6 on Sunday to win the Princess Auto Players Championship.

Switzerland's Silvana Tirinzoni defeated Sweden's Isabella Vrana 6-5 in the women's final at the Mattamie Athletic Center today.

Gushue, of St. John's, NL, singled in the bottom of the eighth for the win.

He finished second at the World Championships in Switzerland last week.

Tirinzoni forced Vrana to play a low-percentage in-off with her last shot in the women's final. The Swedish skip needed two points to force an extra finish, but managed to win by himself.
