Calgary remembers the Brentwood 5 through music

It's been a decade since five young Calgarians were murdered at a house party in Brentwood, and family and friends are still trying to heal.

Tributes honoring their lives can be seen from all over the city, but now they can be heard in music.

The music, written by two of the victims, Zakaria Rathwell and Josh Hunter, will be re-released on Monday 15 April 2024 – the 10th anniversary of their deaths.

According to the pair's former bandmates Kyle Tenov and Barry Mason on the Zechariah and the Prophets Facebook page, the album “Goodnight Icarus” was released just days before the tragic events of April 15, 2014.

The musical is one of many tributes to Rathwell, Hunter, Jordan Segura, Kaity Perras and Lawrence Hong, who are remembered as the Brentwood Five.
