As a result of the fire in the apartment, 1 person was taken to the hospital in serious condition

One person was taken to the hospital Saturday evening after a fire at a residence in the 50 block of Anaheim Green NE.

An EMS spokeswoman confirmed the victim was in serious but non-life-threatening condition after being transported around 11:20 p.m.

The battalion chief of the Calgary Fire Department said the fire caused particularly heavy damage to the garage, which was blown off its foundation.

“Last night around 11:00 p.m. we heard a big bang – an explosion – like a big bang right at our door,” said neighbor Bernardo Ducay. “Then we went outside and we saw a garage door on the other street that had been blown off.”
