A massive construction project near Berry-UQAM will last until the summer

Work on the Berri-UQAM metro, which has led to the closure of many lines since 2022, continues even though it was scheduled to end at the end of last year.

In 2022, the city's public transport authority – STM – said work to replace the waterproof membrane protecting the station's roof would require work to be completed by June 2023.

As a result of the work, Boulevard Maisonneuve was closed for an extended period due to a large construction sinkhole between rue Berry and rue Saint-Denis near the Montreal Public Library (BANQ) and the UQAM (Université du Québec à Montréal) campus.

The work is incomplete and will not last for several months.

“Our teams are making repairs by mapping the underground infrastructure,” STM spokesman Kevin Bilodeau said. “As a result, unexpected obstacles were encountered during the work.”

Bilodeau said crews hope to reopen Maisonneuve Boulevard by July.
