A man who was rescued from a Toronto apartment fire was arrested at the scene on suspicion of assaulting an officer.

A man who was rescued from a downtown Toronto apartment building fire early Sunday morning was arrested at the scene on suspicion of assaulting an officer, police said.

Toronto Fire Service (TFS) was first called to 291 George Street at around 8:25 a.m. to find a man hanging from a window. The smoke-poisoned person was rescued and taken to the hospital.

The fire has since been extinguished.

According to a later update from the Toronto Police Service, the man who was rescued assaulted an officer at the scene of the fire and was arrested.

Police are not investigating the fire itself because it is not being treated as suspicious, they said.
