A man was killed in Weston

Police are investigating an incident that left a man dead in Toronto's Weston neighborhood Sunday afternoon.

The incident happened near West Lawrence Avenue and Ralph Street, east of Weston Road.

Toronto police said they were called to the scene at 5 p.m. after receiving reports of shots fired.

There, officers found a man with a gunshot wound. Despite life-saving measures, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Det. Sergeant. Michael Taylor told media at the scene Sunday evening that police had received multiple calls from people who heard gunshots in the area.

“There are signs of a shooting, there is evidence of that, but I don't have what happened before (the shooting),” he said.

Police said there are no suspects at this time. They also said it's unclear how the suspect(s) fled the area, and they don't know what caused the death.

Local pastor and advocate say youth gun violence is a 'social ill'

Pastor Delroy Sherman, a community advocate and crisis chaplain for Young Lives Matter, said this is not the first time gun violence has occurred in the area.

He invites Mayor Olivia Chow to contact him to discuss the situation. Sherman also said he will be reaching out to the police chief to discuss ways to address the crisis.

“It's gone too far. Too many families are struggling. You know, it's a community disease and you have to have an antidote to solve this problem in the community,” he said.

“Something has to be done about it. Now it happens often here.”
