Winnipeg police say a man was sent to hospital after a fight in the parking lot of a St. James restaurant early Sunday morning.

Police were called to Smitty's home in the 1000 block of St. James after a report of a fight and a stabbing.

Members of the Winnipeg Police Service's Tactical Support Team responded with other officers and found a man with serious upper body injuries.

The man was taken to the hospital in critical condition and is in a stable condition.

Another person was injured, but his injuries are not life-threatening, police said.

According to the police, a group of people got involved in an argument and later “pointed weapons” were used.

Officers were still on the scene Sunday morning. The restaurant parking lot is taped off.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
