A Toronto police spokesperson confirmed to CityNews on Monday that 27-year-old Gabriel Escairo is facing multiple charges, including two counts of attempted murder, two counts of assault with a weapon on a peace officer and aggravated assault on a peace officer. other offenses.

The injured officer and the accused are in stable condition.

The Toronto Police Association (TPA) said the officer stabbed in the leg was a rookie in his 20s who had been on the job for less than a year.

Friday's stabbing is the latest in a series of incidents involving Toronto police officers injured during work.

Mayor Olivia Chow wished the injured officer a speedy recovery in a post on X and commented on three incidents this week in which officers were injured. “Violence is never acceptable,” he wrote.
