Winnipeg golf courses opened 2 weeks earlier than last year

Winnipeg's golf courses were packed Saturday for the first weekend of the season, with many taking advantage of the sun and warmth to hit the links.

It was a special day for Tanner Burns, who celebrated his birthday on the course with friends.

“Said,” Burns told CityNews. “It's good to be open. It's good to be here.”

The city's three golf courses – Crescent Drive, Kildonan Park and Windsor Park – opened on Friday. This is two weeks earlier than last year.

Winnipeg golfers say they are surprised to be working on their swing in mid-April, with many hoping the early start of the season will mean more time to play.

For Burns' friend Zach O'Donnell, it was an opportunity to partake in some extra relaxation.

“I like to drink beer on Saturdays,” O'Donnell said.

Burns' advice to those who want to get into sports: exercise and “save money, save money.”

Spring rates are in effect until April 26, according to the City of Winnipeg's website.
