The Toronto Maple Leafs assigned goaltender Matt Murray to the AHL's Toronto Marlies on LTIR conditioning, the team announced Saturday.

Murray underwent bilateral hip surgery in October and was given a timeline of six to eight months to recover from the surgery. He started skating on full courts last month. Murray could be on the club's playoff roster.

Murray went 14-8-2 with a .903 save percentage and 3.01 goals-against average last season, his first start in Toronto.

In the final year of the 29-year-old's $4.69 million contract, the Ottawa Senators kept an additional $1.56 million on their books. He was acquired from the Senators in 2022, plus a third-round pick in the 2023 NHL Draft for future consideration. Ottawa signed Murray to a four-year, $25 million contract in 2020 free agency.
