Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Yariel Rodriguez will make his MLB debut

Right-handed pitcher Yariel Rodriguez was recalled by the Toronto Blue Jays from their Triple-A affiliate.

The move comes just hours before Toronto hosts the Colorado Rockies.

Rodriguez, 26, will make his Major League Baseball debut as the Blue Jays' first baseman.

Long reliever Paolo Espino joined the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons in a corresponding move.

Rodriguez agreed to a five-year, $32 million contract with the Blue Jays during the offseason.

He pitched as a starter and reliever in the major leagues of Cuba and Japan.
