City of Calgary Home – Here, the result of the housing strategy is rezoning, allowing for medium and high-density housing in single-family neighborhoods.

Controversy arose when the redistricting was announced. The city held a series of public information sessions in February and March to educate residents. Most of the participants in the information sessions were dissatisfied with the proposed area change.

In response to these protests, voiced by Calgarians, councilors voted in March on a proposal to hold a plebiscite after six councilors approved the proposal. However, the vote rejected the proposal and the April public hearing will continue as planned.

For those unable to attend the April 22 hearing, you can submit a written letter to the City Council by noon on April 15.

One result of the big plan

However, the housing strategy and its results are not easily absorbed by ordinary Calgarians. In an effort to break down the information contained in the Home is Here strategy, three fourth-year journalism students undertook a multimedia project to analyze the strategy and its impact on homeowners, renters, and the homeless.

Is the house here? Calgarians explore the bigger picture of how they expect the city to change in response to the City of Calgary's housing strategy, including what redistricting means for local neighborhoods.
