Stephen Butler had a “bad” tryout in Montreal on June 6

Patrice Volny dramatically reaffirmed his desire to live up to his nickname “The Wicked” on June 6, setting the stage for one of the most anticipated duels in the country in recent years; A fight of national importance against Stephen “Bang Bang” Butler.

The two Montreal titans will aim to determine once and for all who is the master in a fight scheduled for 10 rounds at the Cabaret du Casino de Montreal. In addition, if the WBC Francophone middleweight title is held, the winner will again enter the world arena. This latest chapter of Quebec's epic rivalry airs on Punching Grace and ESPN+ at 7 p.m.

“We're talking about a local fight, an international fight and most importantly, a fight that our fans have been clamoring for for a while, so we're excited to bring it to them. For our team, this is in line with our desire to bring Stephen Butler back to the top, but this time by cleaning up our own backyard first,” says Camille Estefan, president of Montreal-based Eye of the Tiger.

His protégé, Stephen Butler of Quebec (34-4-1, 28 KOs), is on a mission in 2024. Ranked #1 in Canada at 160 pounds by Boxrec, he needed just 65 seconds to defeat then-No. country, Ontario's Steve Rolls, last March. Now that the matter is resolved, Bang Bang is looking to climb back into the world rankings and to do so, he aims to settle the debate with fellow Canadian, Quebecois and Montreal native Patrice Volney.

“It's nothing personal, but our paths cross. I'm just showing who the king of the mountain is at 160 pounds in Quebec,” says Stephen Butler.

The task ahead, however, looks tough as BoxRec ranks Butler as the 14th best middleweight in the world, while Patrice Volny (18-1, 12 KOs) comes in at 20th. Like his opponent, he scored his most significant knockout in his last fight, stopping American DeAndre Ware in the 10th round in Halifax last February. However, in June, the former NABA and WBO NABO 160-pound champion returns home with an iron will to fight in Montreal for the first time in nearly seven years and make an important point:

“I'm not nicknamed 'The Wicked' for a reason,” says Patrice Volny, who wants to take control of the 160-pound Quebec Mountain …

Ausley Iglesias, Leila Beaudoin, John Orobio, Moreno Fendero and Artur Bijarslanov will also be in action during what promises to be an explosive boxing card. Tickets for the June 6th #ButlerVolny gala at the Montreal Casino are now on sale at Ticketmaster.ca. F
