It was rejected by 61 per cent of union members who voted, and a turnout of 77 per cent of all members voted, according to data posted on its Facebook page by Quebec's largest nurses' union.

FIQ represents more than 80,000 members, the vast majority of whom are nurses, practical nurses, respiratory therapists and clinical perfusionists in Quebec.

It recommended that its members vote in principle to support the agreement, which was reached after 15 months of negotiations and days of strikes.

Union members took to social media to complain about problems with nurses' commutes and overtime.

FIQ president Julie Bouchard called a press conference at 11 a.m. Saturday to explain the decision to its members.

Treasury Board President Sonia LeBel also reacted on social media X, saying that she “considered the rejection of the agreement by FIQ members”.

“We will meet with the union to understand what is wrong. However, the context and our goals remain the same, especially in terms of flexibility,” LeBel wrote.

Health Minister Christian Dubé also took to Platform X to respond. “The discussion will continue. “We need to make the necessary changes to improve our healthcare network and become an employer of choice,” he said.
